A dental bridge is a prosthetic tooth that attaches to one or both sides of the neighboring teeth by using a dental crown. A fixed bridge is permanently attached to the neighboring crowned teeth and consists of the false tooth or teeth and two crowned teeth. A bridge not only fills the gap but it prevents the remaining teeth from moving. It can also correct a crooked bite, improve chewing and speech andprovide the interior structure needed for the face. The style of bridge that Dr. Schmieder will suggest depends on the health and strength of the crowned teeth, as well as the gap location in relation to the rest of your teeth. A fixed bridge may last eight to 10 years with proper oral care. For a consultation with Dr. Schmieder regarding crown and bridgework please contact our Herculaneum office at 636-479-5324.
